David Alan Gest was an American television personality, music producer and ex-husband of Liza Minnelli. He was born to parents Jessie and Ellie on May 11, 1953 in Los Angeles, California. He was childhood friends with pop icon Michael Jackson. Gest completed his education at California State University. He underwent two plastic surgeries in the 1980s prior to his career in the entertainment industry.

CAREER
Gest began his career as a music producer. He rose to prominence after producing ‘Michael Jackson: 30th Anniversary Celebration’ in 2001. It became the highest rated musical special in American television history. He’s also produced Cha’mone Mo’Fo’Selecta! A Tribute to Michael Jackson (2009) and Michael Jackson: The Life of an Icon (2011). Gest was a contestant on the British reality television game show, I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!, in 2006. He finished in fourth place.

Gest served as a judge on the reality singing competition, Soapstar Superstar, in 2007 on ITV1. He followed up with his own reality series, This Is David Gest, which premiered on April 22, 2007. Gest made a short appearance as a contestant on ‘Celebrity Big Brother’ in 2016. He had to leave the show due to medical reasons. Other notable appearances include, Grease Is the Word (2007), The Sunday Night Project (2007), Come Dine with Me (2008). His autobiography, Simply The Gest, was published in 2007 by HEADLINE.

David Gest died on April 12, 2016 at the age of 62. He was reportedly found dead in a Four Seasons hotel in Canary Wharf, London. An official cause of death has not been reported. Gest was 5ft 8in and had a net worth of $50 million. He was married to movie actress ‘Liza Minnelli’ from 2002-2007. He’s also dated singer La Toya Jackson.
