Judith Sheindlin popularly known as Judge Judy is an American lawyer, Judge and tv personality. She was born Judith Susan Blum on October 21, 1942 in Brooklyn, New York. Sheindlin studied at James Madison High School in Brooklyn followed by American University in Washington. She continued her education at New York Law School, earning her Juris Doctor in 1965.

CAREER
Sheindlin worked two years as a corporate lawyer for a cosmetics firm. Her next job was that of a prosecutor for the family court system. She was tasked with prosecuting child abusers and other domestic violence cases. In 1982 Sheindlin was appointed as a criminal court judge by then Mayor of New York, Ed Koch. She retired as a family court judge in 1996 but her legacy still lives on. Sheindlin wrote the books Don’t Pee on My Leg and Tell Me It’s Raining (1996), Beauty Fades, Dumb is Forever (1999), and Win or Lose by How You Choose (2000). Her star was added to the Hollywood Walk of Fame in February 2006.

The television reality court show, Judge Judy, premiered on CBS on September 16, 1996. The show ran for 20 seasons from 1996 to 2015, and was renewed for an additional three years in March 2015. The show is ranked among the highest-rated daytime program. It outranked The Oprah Winfrey Show on a few occasion. After several nominations, Judge Judy won its first Emmy Award in 2013.
