Wizards of the Coast changed the Universes Beyond releases with a complete set of The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth (LTR). Legal to play in Commander, Vintage, Legacy, and Modern formats, the set was designed to include Limited Draft and Sealed play.  Also included in the Universes Beyond MTG set were 30 reprints offered as Box-Toppers with a Commander symbol on the card, followed by the Holiday release in November.

So, here are the MTG Lord of the Rings’s most expensive card prices.

Holiday bundles, Scene boxes, and Special Edition collector boosters

A second printing of LTR dropped in November, containing four new Scene holiday bundles, along with special edition collector booster packs. Chase cards from the Holiday LTR Special Edition collector boosters were borderless poster variants like The One Ring, valued at over $100.

The One Ring borderless poster

Following the release of the Holiday LTR products, the normal variant of The One Ring borderless poster was valued at around $125. Foil versions of the variant were priced at around $225.

Serialized Sol Ring LTR cards

Serialized Sol Ring cards for the LTR set were only in collector booster packs. And the one-of-one The One Ring was available through English collector booster packs from the LTR Bundle and collector booster boxes, not the gift bundle. On June 30, The One Ring was confirmed to have been found and eventually sold to Post Malone on Aug. 2.

According to Wizards of the Coast, here’s the breakdown of every serialized and non-serialized Sol Ring variant in the LTR set.

Most expensive MTG Tales of Middle-earth cards

Driving hype for the LTR set were the serialized variants of the Sol Ring and the one-of-one serialized The One Ring. Variants within the Universes Beyond set were a Showcase Ring treatment in foil and non-foil, borderless scene cards, extended art, and borderless cards. But the best chase cards outside of serialized cards were surge foil MTG reprints.

All projected prices are subject to change throughout the digital and global release of the LTR set and are based on preorder prices from TCGPlayer, MTGGoldfish, and MTGStocks

The One Ring MTG price

The One Ring is among the highest-priced LTR cards on the secondary market. Variants of the card include a one-of-one serialized double rainbow treatment, extended art, and a regular version. The Legendary Artifact is most often played in the Modern and Commander formats.

Orcish Bowmasters MTG price

Impacting the cEDH and Modern formats is Orcish Bowmasters. The archer uses the Amass mechanic to create a giant orc army against opponents who draw multiple cards each turn while also dealing damage to any target. Prices for Orcish Bowmasters skyrocketed during LTR prerelease and are still rising at the time of writing. Orcish Bowmasters is also played in other MTG formats, like Legacy.

Gandalf the White MTG price

Gandalf the White gives all legendary and Artifact spells Flash. The Avatar wizard is most often played within the MTG Commander format.

Sauron, the Dark Lord MTG price

The Dark Lord Sauron is featured in a stunning Showcase ring variant. The Avatar horror has seen play mostly within the MTG Commander format. Players are also using The Dark Lord Sauron in formats like Legacy and Historic Brawl on MTG Arena.

Delighted Halfling MTG price

Costing only one Green mana to cast, Delighted Halfling is a 1/2 mana dork. The halfling can only help cast legendary spells but prevents those spells from getting countered. Players are using Delighted Halfling in MTG formats like Commander and Modern.

Palantir of Orthanc MTG price

Popular within the Commander, Legacy, and Modern formats is Palantir of Orthanc. The legendary Artifact only costs three mana of any color to cast and is a Mythic Rare. Since the release of LTR, Palantir of Orthanc rose in value dramatically before settling in as the third most expensive MTG card from the set.

Witch-king of Angmar MTG price

Popular in the Commander format, Witch-king of Angmar is a five-drop Mono-Black legendary. The wraith noble spiked in price at the start of July and has since dropped back to its original value before the price increase as of Oct. 12.

Nazgul MTG Lord of the Rings variant MTG prices

Having nine different art variants within the LTR set is Nazgul. The Uncommon allows players to put up to nine copies of the wraith knight into a deck, which is very powerful in a format like Commander, where players can only have one copy of a card unless otherwise specified. The Nazgul are in high demand, with various art variants having different prices.

New Nazgul variants dropped through the second printing of LTR, featuring a Showcase Scrolls treatment.

Best foil Realms and Relics LTR box toppers

Multiple Magic cards from the LTR set have either extended art or borderless surge foil variants that are worth money, priced much higher than other variants of that card. Each of the Realms and Relics cards had a surge foil variant, with some priced at over $200.
