Bart de Zwart completed a 24-hour stand-up paddling distance world record on Monday and Tuesday by covering 193.8 kilometers (120.2 miles) in Switzerland, his sponsor, Starboard, has reported.

The 47-year-old from Haiku was paddling a 10.8-kilometer loop off the town of Erlach. The previous reported record was 180.0 kilometers by Joanne Hamilton-Vale in April on Britain’s Grand Union Canal.

“The conditions changed by the hour,” de Zwart said, noting that he at times faced thunder and lightning.

“Paddling alone against the clock was very stressful as I needed to maintain speed to achieve my goal,” he said.

De Zwart’s other SUP endurance accomplishments include a four-day trip from Tahiti to Bora Bora in 2014, a paddle across the North Sea in 2012 and a five-day trek from the Big Island to Kauai in 2011.
