Paul Kantner was an American singer, songwriter, guitarist and co-founder of Jefferson Airplane. He was born on March 17, 1941 in San Francisco, California. He attended Catholic military boarding school as a child. He was enrolled at the University of Santa Clara followed by San Jose State College but dropped out to pursue music. He was influenced by the works of folk singer Pete Seeger.
CAREER
Kantner co-founded the rock band, Jefferson Airplane, in 1965 alongside singer Marty Balin. He played the rhythm guitar, provided vocals, and wrote many of the band’s early songs. The band’s debut album ‘Jefferson Airplane Takes Off’ was released in 1966 by RCA Victor. The band was renamed ‘Jefferson Starship’ in the 1970s after several core members left the group.
