WoW SoD Engineering Guide & Leveling Tips (Phase 2 Update)
Engineering is one of the primary professions in WoW Classic. As an engineer, you can create unique things such as explosives, firearms, special jewelry, and more. Since many Engineering recipes require bars of various metals, Mining is a side job that complements Engineering well.
This WoW Classic Engineering guide explains where you can learn Engineering in the WoW Classic era, what’s special about Engineering in SoD Phase 1 and Phase 2, and how to effectively level Engineering from 1-300.
What’s Special About Engineering in WoW SoD Phase 2?
The Season of Discovery (SoD for short) is the second season in WoW Classic. WoW Classic: SoD is divided into several phases. Phase 2 will start on February 8, 2024.
In Phase 2 the maximum character level is 40. The level requirement for Artisan has been increased to level 41 (normally level 35) for all professions in SoD. This information can already be found in the Trainer menus for gathering professions in SoD.
This means that in Phase 2 the maximum Engineering skill level is 225 (Expert). In Phase 2 it will therefore not be possible to bring Engineering to the maximum skill level of 300.
Are Engineering Specializations Available in SoD Phase 2?
Blizzard has officially confirmed that the Engineering specializations will not be available in Phase 2, but only in Phase 3.
Which Engineering Recipes Are Important in SoD Phase 2?
Due to the level restrictions, not all Engineering recipes can be crafted in SoD Phase 2. In the following list, you will find the most important recipes that will become available in SoD Phase 2. The list also includes recipes that were already available in Phase 1 but are still used in Phase 2.
Which Engineering Recipes Are New in SoD Phase 2?
For SoD Phase 2, the following new Engineering recipes have already been officially announced or discovered via data mining:
Please note that only Engineering recipes that are confirmed will safely make it into P2. Datamined recipes could also come in a later phase or not at all.
Like in Phase 1, there will be an epic quest chain to unlock the new recipes in Phase 2. Details regarding the quest chain haven’t been announced yet. To craft the new recipes, new materials are needed. A lot of them will be used across different professions.

SoD Phase 1 started on November 30, 2023. In phase 1 the maximum level is 25. For SoD Phase 1, the level requirement for Engineering Expert has been increased to level 26 (normally level 20). This means that in phase 1 the max Engineering skill level is 150 (Journeyman). In Phase 1 it is therefore not possible to bring Engineering to the maximum skill level of 300.
Which Engineering Recipes Are Important in SoD Phase 1?
Due to the level restrictions, not all Engineering recipes can be crafted in SoD Phase 1. In the following list, you will find the most important recipes that are available in SoD Phase 1.
Which Engineering Recipes Are New in SoD Phase 1?
In WoW Classic: Season of Discovery, the Engineering profession received the new recipe for Shredder Autosalvage Unit.
What Is Shredder Auto Salvage Unit Needed for in WoW SoD?
Use Shredder Autosalvage Unit on Venture Co. Light Shredder in Stonetalon Mountains around Windshear Crag for a chance to get Shredder Turbocharger.
Shredder Turbocharger is needed to complete the quest Shredder Turbochargers given by Grizzby in Ratchet in The Barrens. This is one of three quests from Grizzby that must be completed so that you can buy certain WoW SoD runes from him.
How to Level Engineering Profitably in SoD?
The best way to level Engineering profitably in SoD is to craft items that are needed to turn Waylaid Supplies into Supply Shipment. To level Engineering this way, you mainly craft the items needed to complete Waylaid Supplies. To do so you buy the materials needed in the auction house, craft the items, and then sell them with profit in the auction house.
The Engineering items needed to complete Waylaid Supplies are the following:
Start leveling up Engineering in SoD by making Rough Blasting Powder until you’re able to craft the first items from the list above. Fill any gaps between the mentioned items by crafting items from the regular WoW Classic Engineering leveling guide below.
AdWhere to Learn Engineering in WoW Classic?
You can learn engineering in WoW Classic from engineering trainers, who you can find in the capitals, among other places. Once you have reached at least level 5, you can, for example, go to one of the following Engineering trainers to learn the profession:
Horde Engineering Trainers
- Thund in the Valley of Honor in Orgrimmar (75,24)

Engineering Specialization in WoW Classic
Once you reach skill level 200 in Engineering and your character reaches level 30, you can optionally choose a specialization. The following two specializations are available:
- Goblin Engineering
- Gnomish Engineering
Your chosen specialization allows you to craft unique items that are not available to players with the other specialization. No matter which specialization you choose, it has no influence on this leveling guide, as no specialization-specific recipes are used here.
Important to note: In WoW Classic you cannot simply change your specialization later. To do this, you would have to completely unlearn Engineering and relearn the profession from scratch.
How to Level Engineering in WoW Classic?
As with all professions in WoW Classic, the same applies to engineering: You receive skill points by carrying out a certain activity (e.g. crafting an item, etc.). The frequency with which you receive a skill point depends on your current skill level. Please note the following color code:
- Orange : You are guaranteed to always gain a skill point.
- Yellow : You often gain a skill point.
- Green : You rarely gain a skill point.
- Gray : You no longer gain skill points.
How many materials you need to skill engineering in WoW Classic depends on your luck collecting skill points.
